Unicelular or Civilized? i want the truth!

##This is such a mess read on your own risk...

Ever whined about a politician, wondered why the world is so unfair and the way the things should be is not the way things are?

Lets think about it!

Because the community is as strong as the weakest link, the collective intelligence is as sophisticated as the less intelligent majority. But some individuals will be ahead, and they will see the paradox, of knowing what is the best solution to a collective problem, and the impossibility of implementing it immediately.

Those are the dilemmas of living in a group, and certainly Nature has not decided which one is the best!, on one side you have the uni-organisms, the pirates, the bounty hunters, the bacterium, the viruses. Well oiled machines, extremely efficient, independent and adaptable and on the other side you have the Multi-organisms, the Animals & plants the Corporations The Nations, these adapt more slowly, are often inefficient, but stabilize by mysterious and subtle means.

In the case of the multiorganisms the problem arises of which will decide the fate of the group, there are several solutions.... Multicellulars have an authoritarian religious regime, that is, they blindly follow a code of rules, and any cancer that decides to get smart is, ...sometimes repressed. Corporations have a kind of Meritocracy I have never understood, and some nations have democracy, where the ruler is  the man who rules be... sorry.... the one who wins the election, (strategies may vary).

But which one is the best?... It doesn't matter

They all have something in common: they Work!

A silly example

If you  ignore the red light, sometimes when you see an opportunity nothing happens, but if everybody ignores it its a disaster. Thats why theres a law for society, but individuals can, will, and ignore it on certain locations, like if its 3AM and you have to run from the zombies in your favorite post apocalyptic scenario.

Its the same with people, Democracy (or any system) may be strangely limited, but we have paid, with effort, time and often blood, for the change to this odd and costly system from more automatically naturally emergent systems, like Kings, Tribes, or god-forbid Warlords. Any other candidate-solutions do not only have to be good, they have to be worth the change-to-them, and most importantly there has to be a sort of smooth transition path between the current state and the desired state, because for things like society and the Stock market any bumps are ill received.  Anyhow...
 You can,and often will have no choice, but to allow local nondemocratic governments (Like Corporations, or a beautiful apple tree, or your Family), because the thing is, Different structures work best with different organization paradigms. There is no ultimate organization paradigm.

Like there is no best music, there are different genres and each one is the best for certain type of emotion/Individual/decade, everyone will say they really like their music, but no single song/piece/track will satisfy them all.

The strange thought I'm trying to say, is that there is also no ultimate Truth, just approximations. The bad approximations we call lies, and the good ones Facts. If you say i will see only women today, it will be a good approximation, ...for a very short time,. If you say, i will die someday, its a really good approximation, unless you become immortal or something funny happens. Likewise being an uni-organism is a really good choice, the best one so far , but in a world full of them, multi-organisms start to become the next best choice, so some uni.organisms evolve that way. Then being a parasite is the next Big thing and surely some uni-organisms and some multi-organisms fill that role. truths have an expiring date.

In society if the system is stable (Everyone is comfortable and do not want to change), it works, maybe is not the best one, but it works. Unless you know which buttons to punch to change things you, like everybody else doesn't know the how, but it works! When it stops working it changes( Planet-states here we go!), but because of natural selection the ones who convince you they are the best choice ever ,often tell you change is treason and try to damage-control you hopefully without killing you.

So the next time you're whining about some politician or boss, and wonder why is not such and such, remember, even if the politician is not the best ruler, it somehow works and that's what matters to everyone, for now at least.

Brace yourselves... Petroleum is no More

One of the most interesting things about civilizations is what keeps them together, Sometimes we wish it were a strong bond between the individuals, sometimes we learn that their survival is often of main concern. Nevertheless they sometimes perish, the bigger the more unstable seems to be, just like a Top Quark or atoms of the periodic Table bigger than Iron.

We have been in an energetic "summer" the past century, and we have had a really good time...                 But eventually it was time to face the truth, all things come to an end.       ..except for Protons, those buggers just don't decay...

Because of the incredible power-energy-impact Oil had over humanity, and the fact that it was so easy to extract, that is, so easy that even the preoccupation of finding long term sources of energy was mitigated. (Just like if all humanity was suddenly drunk). People with access to it were very rapidly transformed into the de facto rulers of the world, and acquiring more oil became the main concern of everyone:

"You don't have to think now, you only must get a piece of the cake by any means, and most of your problems were be solved"

We have never been drunk before, so we didn't know what to do with so much energy, advances were achieved by brute force approach, if you did things the less efficient way all your life it didn't matter, there was always more oil. You can always try again, Don't worry! i'll buy another one. Needless to say we became wasteful, and because of the Thermodynamic importance of this substance for humanity, society and the people were eventually affected and guided by the sweet-madness of abundance.

But, just like in the Series a Song of Ice and Fire, "Winter is coming", and the hangover will be legendary: Full of regret, frictions and stress, and lets hope not: Amnesia

"Im never doing this again".

 And hopefully sometime in the future we will have the discipline as an organized species to deal with energy bonuses in the most strategic and intelligent way, because in Winter the survivors are those with access to the Reserves. And the ones wich make magic with less.

 But spring wont come this time on its own, we'll have to chase it.
